Getting in 'shape'

Annual dinner - in 2 weeks.
It's something nice to look forward to. However... it can be a hassle especially when you want to look and feel good on that day. It means I have to watch what I eat a little more than usual... well, from "I eat whatever I like" to "Eat whatever I like with control". Haha... kinda tough for a person like me who loves to eat. Not only that, I have to watch my lifestyle too.

My attempt would be:
1) Cut down on oily food... but I love fatty pork!
2) Sweets ah... I need my Skittles!... XD
3) Get moving! ...Is studying consired as brain exercise?
4) Consume more veggies & fruits. Heck! No problemo!
5) Get enough sleep! ...With coursework, reports, tests, finals just around the corner?
6) Eat 1 person's portion, not 2. Umm... when my favourite food is right in front of me? Guess not.

In the end......

I ended up eating 2 person's portion. Rice and noodles, fried tofu, chicken and egg... lots of meat and less veggies. Whee~~

Bah! The heck with weight watching!

Happy Birthday Popo

Honestly, I'm one forgetful person especially when it comes to remembering birthdays. So far I've managed to keep track of my friends and parents birthdays, but hardly for my grandparents and relatives. I'm such a terrible person >_<

My aunt threw a birthday party for my grandma yesterday. She's 82!! And this time, for the first time ever, I made a cake for her. Also, its a challenge to me, since my cousin is away at Australia, she usually does the desserts... and she's superbly good at it (certified pastry chef ma... =P) To try to at least be able to meet up their 'expectations', I tried my best by baking everyone's favourite New York Choc Chip Cheesecake and decorating it with some first-attempt in fondant roses bouquet/scatter.

Hmm... seems ok; but I think I need more practise.

Happy Birthday!

Broga's Temple

Out of the blue, after a nice pan mee lunch with the guys, we went to Broga's Temple. Kinda out of place though. I've heard about this temple ages ago, but have never set foot there before. It's a pretty quaint lil 'kuan yin' temple situated in Broga. It has many large figurines/statues comprising the 12 chinese zodiac animals, extremely large gold olden china coins, wealth turtle, son wu kong and kuan yin. We were almost like tourists, taking photos here and there. Posing with the animals, rocks and whatnots there. Haha... we're a crazy bunch of people, taking photos under the bright hot sun shine.

One thing I noticed that, by just standing on the top of the hill of the temple's garden, you could see beautiful hill-ly scenery. In Broga?? I'm serious. It looks like Cameron Highlands. Too bad I didn't take a photo of it... only had this monkey photo of us, courtesy of Brian.

I know it's not a foodie post. Lolz... Well, if you insist... there's still the monkey's banana banana sculpture (how's this, Wykit? XD) and that urm... finished pack of ABC drink. =P

Ice Ice Baby

Yay!! The kitchen has finally completed its evolution. Perfect timing to create something cooooool for a bloody hot day. Few days back, I watched something interesting on 'Surfing the Menu'. They served ice cream in a uniquely made ice bowl. What more can I say? I tried it! =P It was pretty tough finding 2 bowls, 1 bigger than the other, has the same shape and not made of glass material. Constructing the 'water bowl' and decorating it with rose petals and leaves weren't easy either. Took me a few attempts to get it shaped perfectly. Destroyed many leaves and petals... hope mum doesn't mind her 'botak' rose. *eeps!*

The results...

Chillingly pretty bowls I must say. I filled it up with scoops of vanilla ice cream and drizzled over some home made strawberry sauce. Yuuummm~ This chilled my day. They loved it and no one noticed the 'balding' rose bush. Haha... Only one problem... the bowl didn't survived long in today's hot weather.

Happy Birthday Sudheer!

Today's the big day for da big guy I've known on the uni bus. We had a small party at Pizza Hut, a bit dissapointed couldn't bake anything as a suprise since then kitchen is down. The first bday party with no birthday cake, no candles. Bday boy nowanna cake. Outgrew it so fast ah? Haha...

There we took almost 10 minutes to decide what to order. Never knew guys were as indecisive as us. Lolz! I pity the waiter...

If you're wondering what they were talking about... Honestly, all I know is it was from the movie 300. Underwear? They know better. Lolz! They may sound cranky, but hey! That's them. Fun and cool peeps to hang out with.

"Piiiizzaaaa!~ =)", the 2 next ninja turtles.

Sigh...

It's been 2 days since I last had a nice home cooked meal. The kitchen is being rennovated; new sink, new outdoor kitchen. That's good. A new workplace to mess up with soon. However, these dreadful days of eating outside may last for a week or so. Hopefully one week la... I'll die soon at the thought of eating out from morning till night for more than a week. Sigh...

I miss mum's cooking. Sob...

Oatmeal Cookies

I am one person who dislikes oats, be it cooked with milk, topped with fruits or flavoured. I just somehow am unable to swallow that spoon of icky gooey of oats. Okay, it's just me. Not the oats. Don't get the wrong idea that a bowl of congee-like-oats is horrible. I just don't like anything congee textured.

Despite my non-interest in the bowl of oats, I could not resist the temptation brought by the photo in the Australian Women's Weekly Magazine. It was actually an Anzac Cookie. It looked so golden and yummy. When I first saw this, I thought excitedly, "Oh good! Something for mum!". My mum is on a low-sugar, low-GI diet due to health reasons but the tough part for her is... she loves cakes and cookies! It breaks my heart to see her trying extremely hard to resist for another piece of cookie or cake. So... Based on the recipe of the Anzac Cookie, I altered the porportions a little and remove the golden syrup; making a low-sugar and oat based cookie. The cookies turn out pretty well, with a slight hint of sweetness and oaty, chewy on the inside and have a slight crunch on the edges... not at all like congee! Whee~~

Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup dessicated coconut
1 tsp bicarbonate soda
1 tbsp boiling water
125g butter

Preheat overn to 150°C. Melt butter over low heat, leave aside. Mix bicarbonate soda with boiling water, and stir this into the melted butter until smooth.
In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Pour in butter mixture into dry ingredients and mix till combined.
Drop approximately 1 tbsp cookie mixture onto lined trays. Leave about 2-3cm of space in between each drop.
Bake 20 minutes. Remove, leave on wire racks to cool.
